Pedodontics is a branch of dentistry deals with the dental problems of infants, toddlers and teenagers and children. Pedodontics aims at preventive dental care for children. In preventive dental care early cavities are diagnosed and filled so that further decay is prevented.

When should you visit a dental clinic for your child?

>> Early checkup to prevent decay and other problems of teeth
>> Delay in primary and permanent teeth eruption
>> Rapidly decaying teeth
>> Large cavities in teeth
>> Pain and swelling

Treatment includes:

>> Flouride application: To prevent cavities formation
>>Pit and fissure sealents: For preventive care of dental cavities.
>>Pulpectomy: Is similar to RCT of adult teeth where the pulp of the tooth is removed and replaced with a medicated filling.
>>Space Maintainer: If primary teeth are removed early due to extensive cavities then space for permanent teeth is hampered by adjacent teeth movement into that space. Space maintainer keeps the space open to allow the permanent tooth to erupt and come into place.
>>Extraction : Extraction for primary teeth is done if the teeth does not shed at its proper time because it delays the eruption of permanent teeth.
